Grading before shooting

Here is a novel concept. We did a grade before shooting the actual film. DOP brought us some test footage for a new project on which we did a primary grade. From the grade we produced a .look file which was uploaded to SI2K recorder and the whole film was shoot and lighted according to primary grade. This made it possible to see a graded image on set and light accordingly which saved much time in post and made it possible to make creative and visible lighting decisions on the set. After shooting the editing was also possible with primary grade already in place, this allows for the editor and director to see a result very close to final already in editing. As far as we know this was the first movie in the world to use this kind of a workflow.

Below is a sample footage without and with primary color grade

Scenes from KRA commercial

Here are two scenes that were shot for KRA commercial.
Camera: SI 2K with 25mm Master Prime t1.3. Shot at 30fps playing back at 25fps.
Color look was made before the shoot in Iridas Onset, so that the DP was able to preview the shot with corrected colors on set. These 2 shots have no post color correction, only the same look applied when shooting.

Short version of this one was used in the final

This did not make it into the final

Making of KRA TV-commercial

Here is the original KRA tv-commercial as it aired.
Production: Acuba Film
Director: Arko Okk

Here is the making of KRA tv-commercial I WW scene in post-production. The actors, smoke and explosions were filmed separately and composited together in post to make sure all the details connect in the big picture. The color-grading and finishing was done using Speedgrade which allows for superior color fidelity.
